The main characteristics of late – rite soil are given as below: 

1. It is red like a solid brick. 

2. There is a large amount of pebbles in this soil. 

3. It is a result of intense leaching owing to heavy tropical rains. 

4. These are rich in ferrous and aluminium minerals. 

5. It develops in areas with high temperature and heavy rainfall. 

6. These soils are acidic in nature, coarser and crumbly in texture. 

7. Due to heavy rainfall, fertile elements like cilica, salts and thinnest particles are washed out. 

8. Tea plantation is practiced in areas of these soils.
