Manab is the protagonist of this play. He lives in basement of Calcutta with his machine name as Bidhu and one computer. He has been living there for the last ten years. He survives in a nuclear holocaust. He considers himself as the last man on the earth. Personality of Manab-Manab is a young man. He is the hero of this play. He has to live in a basement. The world has been destroyed in a nuclear holocaust. Manab’s attitude towards life-Manab considers himself as the last man on the earth. He has been living in the basement a lonely and stale life. He thinks that he is the only one in the world. Life for him is very boring and senseless. When joy meets him, he changes his pessimistic attitude.He is full of hope and life as well.
Company of Manab – Manab is living in the company of machines. One of his close one is Bidhu and the other is the computer. Bidhu is bullied, kicked by Manab. When he leaves for phoenix he takes Bidhu with him. He is always in the search of new company of man. He is successful in his search by finding phoenix. Knowledge of Manab Manab considers himself as jack of all trades. He does not know much about the machines he is living with them. He has the adequate knowledge where to find food and fuel. Manab is representing the society that will depend on machines. These people will not know what is nature’s beauty, what is the beauty of a day. It is the imaginary man of future society presented before us in the form of a hero.
मानब इस एकांकी का नायक है। वह कलकत्ता के एक तलघर में अपनी एक मशीन जिसका नाम बिधु है और एक कम्प्यूटर है उसके साथ रहता है। वह वहाँ पर पिछले दस सालों से रह रहा है। वह एक परमाणु विखण्डन में बच जाता है। वह अपने आपको इस पृथ्वी पर अन्तिम व्यक्ति मानता है। मानब का व्यक्तित्व-मानब एक जवान व्यक्ति है। वह इस एकांकी का नायक है। उसे एक तलघर में। रहना पड़ रहा है। संसार परमाणु विखण्डन में नष्ट हो चुका है। मानब का जीवन के प्रति दृष्टिकोण-मानब अपने आपको इस पृथ्वी पर अन्तिम व्यक्ति मानता है। वह तलघर में एकाकी और बासी जीवन जी रही है। वह सोचता है कि वह संसार में अकेला है। उसके लिए जीवन उदासी से भरपूर और निरर्थक है। जब जॉय उससे मिलता है वह उसके निराशाजनक दृष्टिकोण को बदल देता है। वह जीवन और उम्मीद से परिपूर्ण हो जाता है।
मानब के साथी-मानब मशीनों की संगत में रह रहा है। उसका सबसे निकटतम एक है बिधु और जो दूसरा है वह कम्प्यूटर है। बिधु को मानब के द्वारा परेशान किया और पीटा जाता है। जब वह फीनिक्स की ओर रवाना होता है तो वह बिधु को अपने साथ ले जाता है। वह हमेशा मानव के नवीन साथ की तलाश में रहता है। वह फीनिक्स को पाकर अपनी खोज में सफल रहता है। मानब का ज्ञान-मानब अपने आपको सर्वज्ञ मानता है। वह मशीनों के बारे में जिनके साथ वह रह रहा है अधिक नहीं जानता है। उसके पास पर्याप्त ज्ञान है कि उसे ईंधन और भोजन कहाँ पर मिल सकता है। मानब उस मानव समाज का प्रतिनिधित्व कर रहा है जो कि मशीनों पर निर्भर रहता है। ये लोग नहीं जानेंगे कि प्रकृति को सौन्दर्य क्या है, दिन की सुन्दरता क्या है? यह भावी समाज का काल्पनिक मानव है जिसे , एक नायक के रूप में हमारे सामने प्रस्तुत किया गया है।
