Reference to Context-These two lines have been taken from E.M. Forster’s essay ‘My Wood’. He talks about the ownership of property here.

Explanation-

(a) Property produces men of weight-This line means that property makes a man important. Here the word ‘weight’ refers to important. The essayist says that such a man does not have any concern to the common man. He becomes wicked and does not think about anyone who is common. He cleverly wants to take hold of the property that is there before him. The property makes his mind in the similar manner. Thus he considers himself above the other persons of society.

(b) Property is sinful-The author means this line that all the vices or bad virtues are developed due to property. In order to be prosperous they do not pay attention to anything which is related to the training of God. The man does not have enough time to think about the teachings of God or he never reads the holy scriptures. He does not even think of having a holy dip in the Jordan river. They reach to those grounds where no one goes to them. Thus the essayist says that property is sinful.
