Structure organization and Jurisdictions of consumer courts: The consumer courts has three tier system as:
1. District Consumer Forum:
It consists of three members-One Chairman and two members, one of whom must be a woman. It may hear the cases valuing up to lakh, at the district level.
2. State Commission:
Each state has a state consumers grievances redressai commission, and if required an additional bench can also be formed. It has one chairman and minimum of two members, one of whom must be a woman. Chairman of the state commission is the retired judge of the High court. Appeal against the decision of the District forum may be made by the aggrieved persion to the state High commission.
3. National Commission:
There is a National Commission at the central level. It consists of a Chairman and minimum of four members. Its Chairman is the retired judge of the Supreme Court. One of its members must be a woman. It entertains complaints where the value of goods or services exceeds Rs. 1 crore. Appeal against the orders of any of the state commissions can be heard by the National Commission. Any person aggrieved by an order made by the National Commission, may prefer to appeal against such an order to the Supreme Court.
