Population in Rajasthan is unequally distributed in each district. The Eastern Rajasthan is more densely populated than the western Rajasthan. 10% of the total population of the state lives in Jaipur district whereas 1% of the total population lives in Jaisalmer. About 40% people are living in 61% area of the Western desert region of the state, the least density i.e. 130 persons per sq. km. On the other hand about 33% population of the state is found in only 20% area of the eastern plain, mainly in Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Dhaulpur, Tonk, Jaipur, Sawaimadhopur, Karauli and Bhilwara districts. This plain region has the highest density of population i.e. 332 persons per sq. km, because of the favourable agricultural conditionas found here plain land, availability of water, proximity to the National Capital Delhi, availability of basic facilities such as developed means of transportation, commerce and industries. The Aravali mountain region and south – east plateau region have medium density of population. The Western Rajasthan is thinly populated because of unfavourable geographical conditions and lack of basic facilities.
