Asia continent is the world’s largest continent. It is spread on around 30 per cent part of the entire surface area of the earth.
Four major characteristics of this continent are given below:
1. Around two – third of world’s population resides in the Asian continent. The two most populated countries – China and India – are situated in this continent.
2. World’s highest mountain range, the Himalayas, whose highest mountain peak is Mount Everest. It is situated in this continent.
3. World’s lowest place – the Dead Sea – which lies 418 m below the sea level is also situated in this continent.
4. The largest plateau of the world, the plateau of Tibet, is situated in the Asian continent.
