(i) We should not swallow food very fast without chewing. We should eat slowly after proper chewing. When we chew the food slowly, saliva mixed with the food and makes the food smooth and lubricated like a paste. The saliva secreted in our mouth, converts the starch present in food to glucose. Due to this glucose, the food tastes sweet. The digestion of food starts from the mouth only.
(ii) Initially, the food in the mouth is chewed with teeth and then through the oesophagus, it reaches the stomach, from where it goes to the small intestine and then to the large intestine. In the stomach and intestine, the food is digested with the help of the digestive juices. The undigested food collects in the rectum, which is then excreted from the body.
