To protect the food from getting spoiled and store it for a long time, we adopt many methods such as
- To make a marmalade (morabba) by mixing sugar, make a thick syrup (sharbat)
- Make a pickle by adding salt, vinegar and cal
- Preserve the food items like lady finger, cluster beans (guarfali), fenugreek, mint, potato chips etc. by drying them in sunlight.
- The canned or sealed food stuffs are not spoiled because they are vacuum packed
- Use of some chemical reagents for preserving the food stuffs for a long time
- In refrigerator also, the food items remain fresh for some time only
