If [(x + 2y,-y),(3x,4)] = [(-4,3),(6,4)], find the value of x and y.

It is given that

We can write it as

x + 2y = – 4

3x = 6 where x = 2

By substituting the value of x in the above equation we get

x + 2y = -4

2 + 2y = -4

On further calculation

2y = – 4 – 2

2y = – 6

So we get

y = – 3

Therefore, x = 2 and y = – 3.
