What happens when we multiply a negative integer with a positive integer?

When a negative integer is multiplied with a positive integer then negative integer is found, it can be verified from following examples –

(i) – 1 x 4 = – 4 = 0 – 4
(ii) – 2 x 4 = – 8 = – 4 – 4
(iii) -3 x 4 = – 12 = – 4 – 4 – 4
(iv) – 5 x 2 = -10 = – 5 – 5
(v) – 6 x 3 = -18 = – 6 – 6 – 6
