At ‘Midway Island’ in the Pacific in June 1942, the Americans beat off a powerful Japanese attack. The Japanese forces became weaker due to the loss of their aircraft carriers and strike aircrafts, especially dive bombers. Gradually, America recovered the Pacific Islands. The struggle continued through 1943 and 1944 by a process known as ‘Island Hopping’ by which America recovered the Pacific Islands gradually. In this way, Midway became a crucial turning point in the battle of the Pacific.
