Let PQ is a line. Method to draw a parallel line as follows :

In figure (i) Put the edge of set square by setting its right angle edge with PQ and draw a perpendicular line OP.

In figure (ii) set the set square after turning at P and draw line RS (let 3 cm) distance parallel to line PQ.
