An illuminated point object O is kept 20 cm from a thin convex lens L1 of focal length 15 cm as shown below. A thin diverging lens L2 of focal length 25 cm is kept co-axial with the first lens and 3 5 cm from it, as shown in Figure.

Find the position of the final image formed by this combination of lenses.

Here, for refraction at the convex lens

u = -20 cm

v = ?

f1 = 15 cm

This image is formed at a distance of (60-35) cm from the concave lens of focal length 25 cm.

For refraction at the concave lens,

u = + 25 cm

f = -25 cm

v = ?

Thus, the final image is formed at infinity.
