A transistor has α = 0.95. If the emitter current is 10 mA, what is (a) the collector current, (b) the base current and (c) gain β?

Here, α = 0.95, IE = 10 mA 

(a) α =\(\frac{I_C}{I_B}\) ⇒ I = αIE = 0.95 x 10 = 9.5 mA

(b) IB = IE – IC = 10 – 9.5 = 0.5 mA

(c) β = \(\frac{a}{1-a}\) = \(\frac{0.95}{0.05}\) = 19.
