In hydrogen fluoride (HF), 

For example, one molecule is strongly attracted to the fluorine on its neighboring hydrogen. In both liquid and solid, hydrogen fluoride forms long hydrogen bonded zig-zag chains as a consequence of the orientation of the lone pairs on the fluorine atoms.
