Van der Waals equation of state for real gases is –

Correction term for pressure: 

\(\frac{an^2}{V^2}\) is the pressure correction. It represents the intermolecular interaction that causes the non ideal behavior.

Correction term for Volume: 

V – nb is the volume correction. it is the effective volume occupied by real gas.
