First Law of Motion Second law of motion
1. Newton's first law states that an object at rest will stay at rest and an abject in motion will stay in motion with the same speed and direction unless and until an external force is applied on the object. 1. Newton's second law states that the rate of change momentum of a body is directly proportional to the force applied, and this change in momentum takes place in the direction of the applied force.
2. This law is also known as law of inertia. 2. This law is also known as law of force and acceleration.
3. For example: when brakes are applied we tend to move forward, car takes sharp turn then we are thrown outwards. 3. For example: when we push a small stone and a huge rock then the stone will be accelerated because it has less mass.
