Corrosion is the process of degradation of a material as a result of chemical reactions with the environment. The material gets converted into its oxide, sulphide or another compound. Rusting of iron is an example of corrosion where iron is converted into iron oxide when exposed to air and moisture. Since there is a change in the material (formation of a new compound), corrosion is a chemical change.
