Nitrogen-fixing bacteria are prokaryotic organisms. Their property of nitrogen fixation depends upon a specific protein they possess called “leg-hemoglobin”. Under the influence of oxygen, this protein is altered and nitrogen-fixing ability is gone. All others are eukaryotic organism and oxygen is not harmful to them.
