Difference between ion and atom:

Atom Ion
The building blocks of all matter are atoms. Compound composed of metals and non-metals have charged species. The Charge species known as ions.

Difference between cation and anion:

Cation Anion
A positively charged ion is called a cation. A negatively charged ion is called an anion.
For example : Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+ For example: Cl-, SO42-, CO32-
