let the two numbers be 'x' and 'y' ,

such that x is greater than y.

equation 1:  x + y = 50

equation 2: x - y = 8

adding equations 1 and 2 we get,

2x = 58

x=29

putting the value of x in equation 1 we get

29 + y = 50

y = 50 - 29

  = 21

therefore the ratio of these two numbers is equal to 29/21

(cannot be simplyfied further)
