When ice at –10°C is slowly heated, temperature of ice gradually increases till 0°C, the temperature of the system remains constant when the ice change into water and then further rises. Explain the observation.

When the ice is at 0 ° Celsius, the temperature of the system remains constant because the temperature (heat) is used up already to change the state of matter from solid to liquid. This phenomenon is known as latent heat of fusion.
