The colonial government never tried to conserve resources because they were utilising them on a massive scale to aid in their growth and progress of industries and trade. Trade was the means by which the British government gained control of India and in order to meet the growing demands of trade and commerce, and increase imperial power, the colonial government exploited various natural resources of India including felling of trees for building ships to boost trade, clearing forests to build railroads for communication and transportation of goods, supplies, ammunition and soldiers across the country.
