a. The chemical name and formula of the white coloured powder which is used by doctors for supporting fractured bones is: - 

Chemical name – Calcium sulphate hemihydrate 

Formula - CaSO4 \(\frac12\)H2

b. When this white powder is mixed with water a hard-solid mass is obtained. The balanced chemical equation for the change is: -

CaSO4.\(\frac12\)H2O + 1\(\frac12\)H2O → CaSO4.2H2O
