Dear Shilpi,
I hope you had a great time celebrating the Pongal festival. This time, I went to my village for the festival holidays. It was the happiest and most memorable time of my life. This is something I’ll never forget. You live in the city, so a festival is a holiday for you, and you can sleep in. Then eat all of your mother’s delicacies and go see a new release movie or watch television at home. They gather in a common area in the village to celebrate. They all get up early and participate fully in the rituals. As a sign of gratitude, all the ladies make pongal and offer it to the Sun God.
We went to the fair on the third day of the festival and played on the giant wheel and merry-go-round. We ate a variety of freshly prepared native delicacies such as raw mango with chilli powder and salt, palmyra sprouts, various types of vada, appam, and so on. We then watched dancers perform traditional folk dances. We also went to the river, where we swam and then took a bath. I just took a bath because I didn’t know how to swim. We spent time observing and being in nature. It was a great time! The joy of a village’s festival celebrations is truly unforgettable.
Yours friendly,
Pooja
