Following is the simplest way to tackle such questions:

Given: P(3, 2) and Q(x, -1). Also, the distance between P and Q= 5 units.

To find: The value of 'X'

Solution: We know by mid-point formula in co-ordinate geometry that:

For X, we have X + X/ 2 and for Y, we have: Y+ Y /2

From X we have : X2 + X1/ 2 i.e.

=> 3 + x/2 = 5

=> 3+ x= 10

=> x= 7

Answer  X= 7
