Best answer

(d) 8

Let the number of children who can swim and play chess both are \(x\)

Then 30 – x + x + 27 – x = 40 – 5 = 35

⇒ 57 – x = 35 ⇒ x = 22

∴ The number of children who can swim only are 30 – 22 = 8.
