118 elements can be accommodated in the present set up of the long form of the periodic table. It can be explained as below- In the present set up of the long form of the periodic table, we have 18 groups, 7 periods and four blocks (s, p, d and f block elements). 

So, the maximum number of elements which can be accommodated in the present set up of the long form of the periodic table in accordance with Aufbau principle is –

1s2 , 2s2 2p6 , 3s2 , 3p6 4s2 , 3d10 , 4p6 5s2 , 4d10 5p6 , 6s2 , 4f145d10 , 6p6 , 7s2 , 5f146d10 , 7p6
