(i) 50 x 102 = 50 x (100 + 2) 

= (50 x 100) + (50 x 2) 

= 5000 + 100 

= 5100 

(ii) 500 x 689 – 500 x 89 = 500 x (689 – 89) 

= 344500 – 44500
