Find the value of k for which the following system of equations has a unique solution:

kx + 2y = 5

3x + y = 1

kx + 2y = 5

3x + y = 1

Multiplying eq2 by 2 and subtracting from eq1

(k – 6)x = 3

⇒ x = 3/(k – 6)

Thus, for k ≠ 6 the system has unique solution
