Let f(x) = x2 – √2x – 12 = 0 

⇒ x2 – 3√2x +2√2x – 12 = 0 

⇒ x(x – 3√2) + 2√2(x – 3√2) = 0 

⇒ (x – 3√2) (x + 2√2) = 0 

⇒ x = 3√2 or x = –2√2
