Given, Numbers of observations are given.

To Find: Calculate the Mean Deviation from mean.

Formula Used: Mean Deviation = \(\frac{\Sigma d_i}{n}\)

Explanation: Here, Observations 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 17 are Given. Deviation |d| = |x-Mean|

Mean = \(\Sigma \frac{|x_1|}{n}\)

Mean of the Given Observations

\(\frac{4+7+8+9+10+12+13+17}{8}\) = \(\frac{80}{8}\)

And, The number of observations is 8.

Now, The Mean Deviation is

Xi |di| = |xi - 10|
4 6
7 3
8 2
9 1
10 0
12 2
13 3
17 7
 Total Σxi = 80   24

Mean Deviation of the given Observations = \(\frac{24}{8} \) = 3

Hence, The Mean Deviation is 3
