The elevator shown in the 2m/s2 Figure is descending with an acceleration of 2m/s2. The mass of block A is 0.5 kg. What forces exerted by the block A on the block B?

FBD of A;

mg = N + ma

⇒ N = m (g – a)

⇒ N = 0.5 (10 – 2)

⇒ N = \(\frac12\)(8) = 4 newton.
