Aim: To observe what happens when quicklime is added to water taken in a beaker.
Material Required: Quicklime (Calcium oxide), water, beaker
Procedure:
(i) Take 5g of calcium oxide in a beakser.
(ii) Add water to it slowly.
(iii) Touch the beaker.
(iv) Note down the observations.
observation: The beaker becomes hot calcium oxide reacts with water vigorously to form calcium hydroxide with the evoluation of heat.
`underset("Quick lime")(CaO_((s)))+ underset("Water")(H_(2)O_((l))) to underset("Salked lime")(Ca(OH)_(2(aq)))+"Heat"`
Conclusion: The reaction between `CaO and H_(2)O` is a combination reaction. It is an exothermic reaction because heat is evolved.
