Chemically bacteria consists of acetylglycosamine, acetyl muramic acid and a peptide chain of four or five amino acids. All these chemicals together from a polymer called peptidoglycan (= murein or mucopeptide). Some other chemical substances desposited on the cell wall are -teichoic acid, protein polysaccharides lipoproteins and lipopolysaccharides.
