Due to greater bond pair-bond pair repulsions, the two axial P-Cl bonds (Fig.11.35, page 11/134) are less stable than the three equatorial P-Cl bonds. It is becuause of this reason that when `PCl_(5)` is heated, the less stable aixal bonds are broken to form `PCl_(3)andCl_(2)`.
