Best answer
These gases were called permanent gases because they could not be liquefied at room temperature by applying any amount of pressure on them. Now, they are not called so because they can be liquefied by first cooling them to a temperature below a particular temperature called critical temperature of the gas then applying suitable pressure on the gas.
