गैस में ध्वनि की चाल `v=sqrt((gammaRT)/(M))`
R नियतांक है। `gamma` का मान `H_(2)` व `N_(2)` (द्विपरमाणुक) के लिये सामान है। अंत: `(v_(H_(2)))/(v_(N_(2)))=sqrt((T_(1))/(T_(2)),(M_(N_(2)))/(M_(H_(2))))`
`=sqrt(((273+27))/((273+77)).(28)/(2))=sqrt((300)/(250)xx14)=sqrt12:1`
