The `C_(4)` plants have evolved a mechanism to avoid photorespiration which may otherwise lead to 25 precent loss of `Co_(2)` fixes. These plants have a mechanism that increases the concentration of ` CO_(2)` at the RuBisCO site and thus minimising the oxygenase activity of the enzyme.
