प्रकाशवैधुत पदार्थ ( photoelectric material) जिसका कार्य -फलन ( work function) W है , तरंगदैर्घ्य`lambda(lambda lt (hc)/(W))` के प्रकाश से प्रदीप्त किया गया है । द्रुत (fastest ) प्रकाश इलेक्ट्रॉन की दी-ब्रोगली तरंगदैर्घ्य `lambda_(d)` है । आपतित प्रकाश (incident light ) की तरंगदैर्घ्य में `Delta lambda` के परिवर्तन से `lambda_(d)` के मान में `Delta lambda_(d)` का परिवर्तन होता है । तब `Delta lambda_(d)//Delta lambda` का अनुपात अनुक्रमानुपाती होगा :

`KE=(1)/(2) mv^(2)`
`p=mv=(h)/(lambda _(d))rArr v = (h)/(m lambda_(d))`
`KE = (1)/(2) m ((h)/(m lambda_(d)))^(2) = (h^(2))/(2m lambda_(d)^(2))`
`:. (hc)/(lambda) = W + (h^(2))/(2 m lambda_(d)^(2))`
अवकलित करने पर
`-(hc)/(lambda^(2))d lambda= 0 + (h^(2)(-2))/(lambda_(d)^(3) d lambda_(d)`
`(d lambda_(d))/( d lambda)=(m lambda_(d)^(3))/(h^(2) lambda^(2))hc`
`(d lambda_(d))/(d lambda) prop (lambda_(d)^(3))/(lambda^(2))`.
