The transistor used is p-n-p transistor. Here emitter is at `-2V `and collector at `+1V`, both belong to p-type semiconductor, hence (i) emitter is reverse biased and (ii) collector is forward biased.
For a transistor to act as an amplifier, it must have the operating point close to the center of its active region.
