A metal rod 1.8 m long, increases ( in length by 1.4 mm, when heated from 0 °C to 50 °C. Find the coefficient of linear expansion of the metal.

Data: l1 = 1.8 m, l2 – l1 = 1.4 mm = 1.4 × 10-3 m.

T1 = 0 °C, T2 = 50 °C.

l2 – l1 = l1 λ (T2 – T1 )
