Restriction endonuclease cut at specific positions within the DNA. Each restriction endonuclease can bind to specific recognition sequence of the DNA and cut each of the two strands at specific points in their sugar-phosphate backbone. It also recognizes a specific palindromic nucleotide sequences in the DNA.
