(a)Whiptail lizards are referred to as parthenogenetic because they develop from unfertilized egg i.e, the egg produces the new individual without fertilization. 

(b) Meiocytes have a diploid number (2n) of chromosomes whereas gametes contain a haploid number (n) of chromosomes.
