In the circuit shown in figure, points a, b and c are maintained at constant (but may be different) potentials. When a resistance is connected between a and b, no current flows through it, when the same resistance is connected between b and c current flows from c to b.

When only three resistances shown in figure are in the circuit, 

(a) current in resistance 2 R is from c to d 

(b) current in 2 R is four times the current in R 

(c) Both (a) and (b) are correct 

(d) Both (a) and (b) are wrong

The correct option is (a) current in resistance 2 R is from c to d.

Explanation:

From the given information, we can conclude that

Va =Vb and Vc >Vb

Now, suppose Vd < Va or Vb, then obviously Vd will be less than Vc also, So, in this case, direction of current are as shown
