Why equilibrium constant of a reaction does not change in the presence of a catalyst ?

In a reversible chemical reaction under equilibrium, a catalyst increases the speed of both the forward and the backward reactions to the same extent. Therefore, it does not change the equilibrium constant for the reactions.
