The shape of the network is that of an inverted tree with the central root branching and subbranching to the extremities of the network.
Advantages:
(i) It is suitable where hierarchical flow of data and control is required.
(ii) We can easily extend the network.
Disadvantages:
(i) Long cables are required.
(ii) There are dependencies on the root node. If it fails, its subnodes also fail.
