The vander walls  equation is written as:

\((p+\frac{an^2}{V^2})(V-nb) = nRT\)

\(\frac{an^2}{V^2}\) is the correction term for pressure and has the units of atmosphere.

\(\frac{an^2}{V^2}=atm \)

or \(a=\frac{atm(L)^2}{(mol)^2}\)

a = atmL2mol-2
