As per IS code, for pre-tensioning the total residual shrinkage strain is:
1. 3 × 10-4
2. 2 × 10-4
3. 6 × 10-4
4. 2.5 × 10-5
5. 5.5 × 10-5

Correct Answer - Option 1 : 3 × 10-4

Concept:

Loss due to shrinkage of concrete:

Shrinkage is defined as a change in volume of concrete members. It is dependent on humidity in atmosphere with passage of time but is unrelated to application of load.

For pre-tensioned members:

Loss of stress due to shrinkage = εcs х E,

Where,

εcs = Total residual shrinkage strain having values of 3 × 10-4 for pre tensioned member.

For post-tensioned members:

Loss of stress due to shrinkage =  \(\frac{{0.0002}}{{{\rm{log}}\left( {{\rm{t}} + 2} \right)}}\),

Where,

t = age of concrete at transfer in days and Es = modulus of elasticity of steel
