  • The main place of sanctuary is village Nanaj in North Solapur Tehsil, District Solapur.
  • It is also known as the Maldhok wildlife sanctuary.

  • Habitat - The Great Indian Bustard is distributed in the Western part of India and it is also found in Pakistan
  • It is listed as
    • Critically endangered in International Union for Conservation of Nature's red list;
    • Schedule I of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972;
    • Present in the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals Convention
    • Appendix I of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
  • It is one of the heaviest flying birds.
